Redoux it Vintage, What is that about?!

Hi!  This is my first post, so let me introduce myself.

My name is Lia and I love all interior design.  I’m not very good at it, but I love it!  I have a wonderful husband, Russell, three terrific children, four fantastic grandchildren and a fixer upper house that drives me mad.  I have been painting furniture for many years, but decided, with the push of my husband and children, to pursue a business with it.  Along came ‘Redoux it Vintage, painted vintage and modern furniture, found treasures restyled with vintage charm!’  About a year in a half ago, I did one craft and antique show and was hooked!

I love getting a vision from a piece of furniture, choosing a paint color and watching it come to life.  Of course, my visions don’t always come to life the way I want, but sometimes, that’s a good thing.  Sometimes they come out looking so much better!  Keep reading and you’ll see what I mean.

French style red gossip bench

Like this bench.  I bought it knowing it was an awesome shape and that it would be great painted white.  Umm, no.  When I went into my workshop to paint, I grabbed red instead of white.  Don’t know why, just did.  I painted it with Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paint and the chipping, oh wow, was fantastic!  I didn’t have any fabric for it, after all, I was going to paint it white.  I went to my favorite online fabric store, fabricguru.com and looked through hundreds of fabrics….until I found this one.  Oh man, it hit me like a brick and I couldn’t hit ‘add to cart’ fast enough.  It was perfect.  So see, what you envision may not be what is going to happen, at least with me anyway. 🙂

I want this blog to be my way of getting my visions out there while also helping others who want to try painting and updating their décor.  I will be making conversation, posting painted furniture and accessories, writing tutorials about any and all things to do with painting.  I hope someone will benefit from and enjoy my experiences as a rookie entrepreneur.

I promise I won’t overstay my welcome and will only knock on your door once a week, well, maybe twice.  So come on back, watch me muddle through this blog and see if we can turn your visions into eye candy for your home!!

I can’t wait to share my adventures with you!

XOXO,

Lia

Love the bench. I too have grown children and grandchildren. taking my retirement in 5 months and hope to spend a lot more time on my favorite passion, painting furniture, walls etc. Have always had a passion for interor design and people say I have good taste. Looking forward to reading all about your projects. You say you use Miss Mustard? I did n’y know she had such passionate colors. How do you get the chipping action going?

    • Hi Diane! So excited to hear from you! Miss Mustard Seed has some absolutely beautiful, rich colors. When they first go on, sometimes they can look a little dull, but after the topcoat, the color is wow! As far as chipping goes, with milk paint, it is hit or miss, sometimes it happens, sometimes not. So far, I’ve found that the glossier the topcoat, the better chance you have to get the beautiful chipping you see on my bench…but not always. It usually happens after the second coat of milk paint. Thank you for your wonderful comments, I hope to hear from you more. And I can’t wait to see some of your painted creations!
